WD RETREAT: RATS invade QUINIPET

Posted by Rebecca on April 14th, 2007

The Writing Division is planning its first annual end-of-the-year writing retreat for RATS students (including all you second-years: AKA soon-to-be RATS). This is your chance to reconnect with your writing community, put some hiking boots on and get some marathon writing done.

** WHO: You and 24 other RATS
** WHEN: May 11-13 (Friday to Sunday)
** WHERE: Quinipet Retreat Center on Long Island:
http://www.quinipet.org/id8.html (check out the Jesse Lee House)
** PRICE: $60 plus travel expenses and some food (the WD will cover most of the food)

The retreat itinerary is still being put together, but we’re looking at the following:

— mass time to write throughout the day on Quinipet’s lakeside campus
— night-owl activity that involves Shelter Island bars
— we’re inviting faculty to come out and spend time with us; we’ll see who bites

Space is limited to 25, so sign up quick to reserve your space. Word on the street is that these slots are going like hotcakes after a hangover. Just email Jeff Bender (jb2424@columbia.edu) to get on the list and more information will come soon.

Writing somewhere not here

In late spring/early summer of next year, we plan to organize and facilitate a writing retreat for about 4 or 5 days. Our goals for retreat are as follows:

We’re still in the preliminaries for this program, but if you have a location suggestion or know of an existing setting prospect (read: your Great Aunt Alma who owns a house in the Adirondacks) please let me (Jeff Bender) know.

Also, for questions regarding the retreat, please contact me at jb2424@columbia.edu.
