Columbia: A Journal Editors Board

Posted by Amanda on October 18th, 2006

Columbia: A Journal has published over 1,000 creative works over the last three decades. But more importantly it’s a student-run publication that has survived two-year turnovers since its inception in 1977.

This couldn’t have happened without the tremendous efforts of past and present journal staff.

If you were ever wondering how much staff time was worth, I can tell you: At minimum, $115,000. The average hourly wage for graduate student workers on campus is $22.50 — a rate we also apply to your volunteer hours.

If you’ve been on staff, you’re aware of the huge sacrifice we all make to produce a worthwhile publication. It is worthwhile. And your experience and expertise is invaluable to Columbia.

Over the next year, I’d like to create more continuity between past and present staffers by hosting an editorial board event that would keep RATS and alumni staff connected to current Columbia staff. Your input and support would help today’s journal maintain its legacy of excellence.
