THESIS 101: Getting out of Dodge

Turn-in deadlines:
• March 5, 2007 (for graduation in May)
• mid-August (for graduation in October)
• mid-December (for graduation in February)

What you actually turn-in:
Your thesis should be a minimum of 35 pages of poetry or a minimum of 32,500 words approximately 150 pages) of fiction or nonfiction. A thesis may consist of work in more than one genre only in exceptional circumstances and with the approval of both Concentration Directors.

Prepare to turn-in:
You must make sure that you complete both an Application for Degree and a Degree Candidate form, then return them to Dodge Admin months in advance of your actual turn-in (i.e., forms due January 19th for May 2007 graduation).

How to turn-in:
Submit three copies of your thesis to Dodge Admin (see Thesis binding instructions), who will distribute them to two faculty readers for written evaluation. A thesis conference with you and your two readers will be arranged, and copies of your evaluations will be sent to you via email a few days before your conference. Conferences for May 2007 graduation will takes place during the weeks of April 23rd and April 30th (Saturday and Sunday meetings are not available).

Getting graduated:
In order to graduate, both thesis readers must pass your thesis. If it is not passed by one of your readers, your thesis workshop instructor will act as a tie-breaking third reader. Your accepted manuscript will ultimately be housed in Butler Library.

Commencement ceremonies take place every May.
